Yo so everybody should know by now Denmark Vessey’s new album “Martin Lucid Dream”. And if you don’t go listen now. A lot of people are talking about it at Rolling Stone. It was placed in the top 40 albums of 2015.
Denmark Vessey is an artist with dimensions to him. Before we met in person, I automatically grouped Denmark into a category of Detroit rappers already held in high esteem, Quelle Chris and the likes. With a lot of classic songs already online, I got to know a part of who Denmark Vessey expressed himself to be, mostly through music videos. He produces very unique, “smart rap” or “smart hip hop”, as one would begin to describe it, but that night at the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor I witnessed Denmark Vessey transform into another artist. He chopped and screwed his entire set and performed more like a one man rock band, difference cadence to his lyrics, it was very, very lit. Beats were lit. Everything sounded new. The kids loved it. It was more like trap-jazz-rap. Whatever it was something new. He also wore a mask, which is not a things he’s done in the past. Which I thought was super interesting. Go listen to “Cult Classic”. Denmark Vessey continues to make statements with his music and he is unlike any rap artist I’ve witnessed live. Pay attention to this guy! Peace and blessings.
